Role and setting

As a Kiosk Sales Assistant at Nederlandse Spoorwegen, you run your own shop in the busy station environment at Amsterdam Zuid. You may work on the platform or in the central hall. Travellers should not have to wait: you prepare coffee, sandwiches and hot snacks, keep shelves and refrigerators stocked, and make the Kiosk neat and inviting. Station Amsterdam Zuid is developing; from November, 3 brand-new shops will open, giving you the chance to help build something new from the start.

Availability and requirements

Different shifts are available at the Kiosk branches at Amsterdam Zuid and Rai. The early shift starts at 05:00 and the late shift lasts until 01:00. Nederlandse Spoorwegen is looking for colleagues for 4 - 32 hours per week who can in any case open or close the shop. Because of the work and hours, the minimum age is 18. You will work with a diverse team of Dutch- and English-speaking colleagues. Dutch at B1 level is required.

Everyday work

In practice, you combine quick and friendly service at the counter with preparing products and keeping the shop ready for the next traveller.

  • Prepare coffee and sandwiches for travellers.
  • Bake croissants and prepare hot snacks.
  • Refill shelves and refrigerators.
  • Help customers quickly and courteously at the counter.
  • Keep your Kiosk neat and inviting.

Pay and what is offered

  • If you are 21 or older, you earn € 14,99 gross per hour, excluding any allowances. If you are younger than 21, the youth wage under the horeca collective agreement applies.
  • Additional employment conditions apply above the collective agreement.
  • There is a possibility of a permanent contract after 7 months.
  • There are opportunities for training and progression.
  • You work a fixed number of hours per week with flexible shifts; this is not a standard nine-to-five job.
  • You work in the station's dynamic environment with friendly colleagues.
  • You can receive up to 60% discount at various shops at the station.
  • A possible travel-cost contribution is available up to €10,50 per day from 10 km. Parking costs are not reimbursed and there are no fixed parking spaces unless otherwise indicated.
  • If you want to combine learning and work at MBO level 3 or 4, a BBL programme may be possible.
  • The onboarding programme includes a buddy system and an onboarding app.

Applying and procedure

You must be able to reach the location within 30 minutes without public transport, because public transport does not always run in the early morning or late evening. Nederlandse Spoorwegen says that inclusion and diversity are important in its hiring policy. This vacancy is for direct recruitment of a new colleague and is not an acquisition call. The advert refers to the hospitality collective-agreement employment conditions at Nederlandse Spoorwegen for more information.

  • Application received: you are told within 2 weeks whether the process will continue.
  • Intake: a telephone or video interview discusses whether the role suits you.
  • Branch interview: after a positive intake, the manager invites you to a follow-up interview at the branch.
