The role

As a sales assistant at the Kiosk of Nederlandse Spoorwegen at Amsterdam Amstel, you run a shop in the busy station environment, either on the platform or in the central hall. The vacancy presents the position as almost having your own business: you keep the Kiosk welcoming, serve travelers quickly and make their journey start with good service. Some customers may be trying to catch a train, so the work combines speed, accuracy and a friendly approach.

Everyday tasks

  • Prepare coffee and sandwiches for travelers.
  • Finish baking croissants and help customers with a hot snack for the journey.
  • Refill shelves and refrigerators.
  • Help customers quickly and politely at the counter.
  • Keep the Kiosk clean, tidy and inviting.

You will meet travelers with different stories and help create a positive moment before they continue their journey. The role also includes the station’s changing pace and contact with a diverse team of Dutch- and English-speaking colleagues.

Availability and requirements

Different shifts are available at the Kiosk location at Amsterdam Amstel. The early shift starts at 06:00 and the late shift lasts until 23:45. Nederlandse Spoorwegen is looking for colleagues who want to work 4 - 16 hours per week, are available on at least one weekend day and can open or close a shift on a weekday. Because of the work and working times, the minimum age is 18. Dutch at level B1 is required for this position.

Pay and benefits

If you are 21 or older, the stated pay is € 14,99 gross per hour, excluding any applicable allowances. If you are younger than 21, the youth wage under the horeca-cao applies. The vacancy also mentions additional employment conditions above the collective agreement and the possibility of receiving a permanent contract after 7 months. You work a fixed number of hours per week, with flexible shifts rather than a nine-to-five job.

  • Possibility to progress and access to training or courses.
  • Up to 60% discount at various shops at the station.
  • Possible travel-cost reimbursement up to €10,50 per day from 10 km; parking costs are not reimbursed and there are no fixed parking spaces unless otherwise indicated.
  • If you want to combine work and study at MBO level 3 or 4, there is a possibility to follow a BBL programme.
  • An induction programme including a buddy system and an onboarding app.

Travel and working environment

The vacancy states that you can reach the location within 30 minutes without public transport, because public transport does not always run in the early morning or late evening. Nederlandse Spoorwegen says that inclusion and making everyone feel at home are important in its recruitment policy. This vacancy is intended to recruit a new colleague directly and is not a call for acquisition.

Application process

  • After your application is received, you will hear within 2 weeks whether Nederlandse Spoorwegen will continue with you in the procedure.
  • An intake takes place by telephone or video, where you discuss together whether the position suits you.
  • After a positive intake, you are invited to a follow-up interview at the branch with the manager.
  • If you are hired, you join Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

The supplied vacancy text does not include an application URL or complete contact details. Ask the employer: which application channel and contact details should candidates use?
