The role
At Julia's at Amsterdam Amstel, you work for Nederlandse Spoorwegen as a sales assistant, barista and Italian cook. You help travellers who want to take a drink, sandwich or warm pasta with them before catching their train. The work combines customer contact, food and drink preparation, hygiene and teamwork during busy station shifts.
Everyday tasks
- Prepare espresso drinks such as a fresh cappuccino, bake sandwiches and prepare fresh pasta for a traveller who needs to catch a train.
- Keep your own workspace clean so you can work hygienically.
- Serve customers quickly and in a friendly way at the counter.
Attention also applies to colleagues: together you help make busy services pleasant. The location has a diverse team of Dutch- and English-speaking colleagues.
Availability and requirements
Your roster is flexible and agreed with the manager. You must be available on weekdays from 17:00 - 22:30 and on one day at the weekend. You must be at least 18 years old. Dutch at level B1 is required. You must also be able to reach the location within 30 minutes without public transport, because public transport may not always run in the early morning or late evening.
Pay and conditions
- If you are 21 or older, you earn €14.99 gross per hour, excluding any allowances. If you are younger than 21, the youth wage under the hospitality collective labour agreement applies.
- Additional employment conditions are provided above the collective agreement, with the possibility of a permanent contract after 7 months.
- You work a fixed number of hours per week, with flexible shifts rather than a nine-to-five job.
- You get the station's dynamic environment, colleagues and up to 60% discount at various station shops.
- A possible travel-cost contribution is available up to €10.50 per day from 10 km. Parking costs are not reimbursed and there are no fixed parking spaces unless stated otherwise.
- If you want to combine learning and work at MBO level 3 or 4, a BBL programme may be possible.
- There is an induction programme including a buddy system and onboarding app.
Application process
The stated process begins when your application is received. Nederlandse Spoorwegen says it will tell you within 2 weeks whether you will continue. Next comes an intake by phone or video, followed, after a positive impression, by a branch interview with the manager. If you join, you enter employment with Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The vacancy also states that diversity and inclusion matter and that it is direct recruitment, not an acquisition call. Ask Nederlandse Spoorwegen: which application channel should you use? No application URL or complete contact details are supplied in the source.
